UTair is a Russian airline founded on October 28, 1991, as Tyumenaviatrans Aviation. The present title was adopted on October 1, 2002. In the same year the airline that is listed at the Russian stock exchange won the title "Airline of the year" in the category "Services for Industries of the Economy of Russia" in a Russian award.
It has, however, been prohibited to enter European Union airspace by the European Commission in March 2007, which prohibits them to operate charter or single flights to any EU member state.
On March 17, 2007, UT flight 471 touched down in heavy fog 400 meters before the runway started and crashed. Seven were killed, around 40 injured. The Tu-134 carrying oil workers had been en route from Surgut to Samara.
