TUIfly was founded on January 15, 2007, when TUI subsidiaries Hapagfly and Hapag-Lloyd Express were merged. The new airline offers both charter and low-cost flights.

The parent group of TUIfly, TUI AG, has merged with the British First Choice Holidays PLC in March 2007, creating the largest tour operator in the world.

The airline is the third-largest airline in Germany and the largest holiday carrier in Europe. With more than 50 Boeing 737s, the airline flies to more than 70 holiday destinations.
