L’Avion was founded in 2006 as Elysair, but the name was changed soon afterwards, as market research found the new name to be highly valued in the US. On November 8, 2006, L’Avion received its aircraft (F-HAVN), a Boeing 757-200 bought from Condor Airlines. The aircraft has only 90 seats instead of the usual 220 in order to create more leg room for each passenger. High quality French food and entertainment systems are provided on each flight.
The first flight took place on January 3, 2007, from Paris Orly Airport to New York Newark Liberty International Airport. However, although prices are usually lower than those of Air France and other large airlines operating between France and the USA, average load factors have only been around 30 % with some flights even being completely empty.
