HLX.com was founded as Hapag-Lloyd Express in Hanover in 2002, as a TUI (German Travel Company) subsidiary. Main competitors were other low-cost carriers like Germanwings in the German market and EasyJet and Ryanair in the European market.
In 2006, the airline served 36 destinations in 10 European countries.
HLX.com, highly recognisable because of their black and yellow taxi livery, did not own any aircraft. Its 18 Boeing planes were all wet-leased from Hapagfly and Germania.
On January 15, 2007, HLX.com was merged with the other TUI airline Hapagfly creating TUIfly.
