British Asia Airways was set up in 1995, in order to operate between London and Taipei. Due to political sensitivities, the airline had a different name than its parent company and the Union Jack tailfin was replaced by Chinese characters. Other airlines followed this example (e.g. Qantas’ Taiwan subsidiary was called Australia Asia Airlines). The airline ceased operations in 2001 due to low yield.
